The Paths to Partnership, Academic Promotion and Research Productivity: How to Advance as an Early Career Gastroenterologist

Advancement is expected in all career paths. This session will provide high-yield information about career advancement from respected AGA leaders in private practice, academics, and research. Needs Assessment: Many early career GIs and trainees want to know how to move forward in their careers. Advancement is necessary and expected, and the requirements are distinct for different career paths.
Barry Marshall (Nobel Laureate 2005) and Adrienne Marshall Lecture: Nobel Laureate Barry Marshall's Legacy and the Current Challenges of H. pylori Therapy
Saturday, May 22, 10 – 11:30 a.m.
H. pylori management has become increasingly challenging due to widespread antimicrobial resistance worldwide. This session will provide invaluable and practical information to help clinicians evaluate resistance in their population of interest, and to develop strategies to optimize treatment success. As an exciting introduction Barry Marshall (Nobel Laureate in 2005 for his role as co-discoverer of H pylori) will review how H. pylori was first cultured in 1982 and how the initial findings bumped up inconveniently against the existing medical dogma.
Advancing Clinical Practice: GI Fellow-Directed Quality Improvement Projects
Saturday, May 22, 1-2 p.m.
Attendees should attend this session to learn about practical examples of successful quality improvement projects for integration into their day to day work lives. This session will also provide guidance on how to develop a quality improvement project with GI fellows focused on quality improvement presenting selected abstracts.

AGA Board Review Course

The AGA Board Review Course features case-based multiple choice questions, delivered in a style to help learners prepare for the GI board exam. Expert faculty will cover the major topic areas covered on the ABIM gastroenterology initial and recertification exams, allowing learners to assess their readiness to successfully sit for the GI boards.
Healthy Gut Microbiome: A 2020 Research Mentor-Mentee Perspective

An overview of research knowledge that has emerged from the studies of the MMT Research Mentor, Fergus Shanahan, MD and former mentees. This session will cover the latest concepts regarding the gut microbiome as well as existing gaps in knowledge, challenges, and opportunities in microbiome science in the context of human health and disease.
Leveling Up Your Lab: How to Bring State-of-the-Art Tech to Your Science (GRG Symposium)
Sunday, May 23, 3:30 – 5 p.m.
Attend this session to get an update on the latest imaging and analysis tools to decipher cross talk between the gut and brain as well as the latest in imaging techniques for cells, tissues, and neural networks. This session will also show you how to handle large datasets detailing mRNA, epigenomic, protein and metabolic states.
