Welcome to the AGA Self-Assessment Module (SAM) on geriatric gastroenterology and hepatology. Originally authored in 2015, the content was reviewed in April 2020 and updated to match current scientific knowledge.
We’re excited to re-offer this very popular learning module for your use in studying and staying current. We believe SAMs represents a unique contribution to your continuing medical education.
Certainly, the current shift in practice demographics makes it imperative to be familiar with the special needs and considerations of the aging population. The questions were written to reflect a variety of learning objectives, including common issues in geriatrics which intersect clinical encounters with gastroenterologists and hepatologists, the modulation of our diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in this special population, and conditions which represent a heightened vulnerability for the aged. This module should serve all learners as a useful exercise for identifying any current knowledge gaps and providing the resources for self-directed learning. The module questions were written in a boards-style format, with a high level of review for content and function and serve to provide excellent practice for your board exam review in a focused area of gastroenterology and internal medicine.
