Learning Objectives:
- To understand the complex mechanisms that underlie the development of acute kidney injury (AKI) in cirrhosis.
- To appreciate the interplay between liver factors (portal hypertension, cirrhosis), the systemic factors (hemodynamic changes, systemic inflammation) and the local renal factors (renal microcirculation and renal microstructure changes) in the development of AKI in cirrhosis.
