Overview
As a physician advocate, it is important to understand how medical coding, payment rates, and the federal government's decisions about coding and payment impact you and, perhaps most importantly, how you can influence this process. Few medical schools teach doctors how Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding and payment will impact them or the role the federal government has in setting payments. The reality is these issues impact you regardless of whether you are in academic or private practice.
The purpose of this AGA training is to help you:
- Learn how the CPT and valuation processes work;
- Understand the federal government's role in setting payments;
- Learn AGA's role within the CPT, valuation and governmental rulemaking processes;
- And learn how you can help AGA influence each process.
Learning objectives
- Provide an overview and clarification of how GI services are valued and covered by Medicare.
- Equip members with the foundation of payment policy to improve their ability to advocate on more technical payment policy issues.
